On this page you will find:

Can I access my money?

Yes. The Senior Master holds funds for you but it is still your money.

How do I access my money?

To access your money, you need to submit an application to the Senior Master. Your Client Services Officer can help you with this.

You can make an application by either:

  • phoning FIC and talking to your Client Services Officer
  • sending an email or letter
  • making an appointment to have a video call with your Client Services Officer.

If you send a request, your Client Services Officer will contact you to confirm the details. See Contact us for our contact details.

Your Client Services Officer can help you complete your application if you are not sure what you need to do. It needs to include a:

  • description of the item
  • summary of why it is the best option for you
  • quote which shows the final price.

When your Client Services Officer is satisfied with your application, they will send it to the Senior Master. Only the Senior Master can approve the application.

You need to do this because money can only be paid out of Court by a court order, and only the Senior Master is authorised to make this court order. Other staff can help you with your application but they cannot make the final decision.

The Senior Master always thinks about:

  • whether you can afford it
  • whether you will benefit from the purchase
  • whether you should pay for it out of your money or if someone else should pay for it (maybe your parent or carer, or VOCAT).

Only the Senior Master can approve your request. Client Services Officers can help you with your application but they cannot give final approval.

You can also leave your money until you turn 18 and then apply to have your funds paid to you. There is more information on this at When you turn 18.

What can I use my money for?

You can use your money before you turn 18 for items such as:

  • clothes
  • food
  • holidays
  • computers
  • TVs
  • bikes
  • furniture
  • driving lessons.

There’s more information on how you can buy these things in What your funds can be used for.
