You must have one of these forms of photo ID to apply for payment out of your funds held in Court:
Learner Permit
If you are planning to drive for the first time you will need to get a Learner Permit. In Victoria, you need to be 16 and pass a knowledge test in order to get your Ls.
You need to show evidence of your identity to get your Ls, so make sure you check what you need before you apply.
Probationary Drivers Licence
Once you have your learner permit, and met the practice requirements, you can apply for your Probationary Licence (your Ps). When you have your Ps you can drive a car solo on the road. This licence is valid for 3 or 4 years, or until you obtain a full Driver Licence.
In Victoria, you must be at least 18 years old to be eligible to apply for your Ps, and you need to pass a Hazard Perception Test and Driving Test.
You need to show evidence of your identity to get your Ps, so make sure you check what you need before you apply.
Passports
A Passport is an official document issued by a government, certifying the holder’s identity and citizenship. You need a Passport to travel to other countries under the government’s protection.
You need to show evidence of your identity to apply for a Passport. Some of you might have a Child’s Passport already, so check the expiry date.
See the Australian Passport Office.
Proof of Age Card
The Victorian Proof of Age card is used to verify that you are over 18 years of age. This card is recognised throughout Australia.
Any person who has reached the age of 17 years and 11 months can apply (although you can’t use it until you are 18). The application fee is $10. Your card will take 10–15 days to arrive.
You can pick up an application form at:
- the Post Office
- VicRoads
- the Victorian Consumer and Business Centre
- some police stations, council offices and pharmacies.
You need to include two types of ID (like a Birth Certificate and a Medicare Card), and sign your application in front of an ‘authorised referee’.
For more information, or to find out who is an authorised referee, see Proof of Age card.
What else?
- Before you travel interstate, check which types of identification will be accepted when you get there.
- Make sure you check which documents you need to include with your application.
- You have to be 18 to use a Proof of Age card.
