Funds in Court is an office of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Funds in Court supports the Senior Master in managing funds, investments and assets and providing assistance for more than 7,200 clients. The Senior Master is an Associate Judge of the Supreme Court.

Funds are paid into Court when money is awarded to a person who is under a ‘legal disability’. A person is under a legal disability if they:

  • are under 18 years old
  • have a disability that makes it hard to manage a lump sum of money by themselves.

These people are our clients. If you are a client of the court, you can visit our section For Clients or For Under 18s.

Cost recovery

Funds in Court does not charge fees for the administration of funds. The Senior Master does partially recoup operating costs by recommending crediting rates for Common Fund No. 2 that are usually slightly less than the income actually produced by the investments. For details visit the Cost Recovery section.

Non-award funds

Funds are also paid into Court if they are part of a court proceeding. We have more information about these payments in our Legal & Other Professionals section.
