Your Client Services Officer will usually ask you to provide a quote for an item you want to buy.
A quote is a document that a salesperson or tradesman gives to a customer to describe the cost of a certain item or service.
When your Client Services Officer has the quote they can make sure you are being charged a reasonable price. They can also easily compare the cost with quotes from other companies.
Most of the time you only need to get one quote. Sometimes there might be a reason for your Client Services Officer to ask you to get another quote, but they will talk to you about this.
If you are looking at an item at a store, such as a fridge or a television, you can ask the salesperson to fax the quote directly to FIC.
Our fax number is 1300 039 388.
If you are getting a quote from a tradesman (such as an electrician or plumber) you can also ask them to send the quote straight to us.
You should:
- ask the tradesman for a quote in writing
- check that the quote includes their business name and contact details
- ask them to break down each cost
- ask them to state if the cost is including or excluding GST.
