Neuropsychologists are psychologists who have specialist knowledge in how the brain works. They study how the brain influences thinking, behaviour, and emotions. They also examine how these are affected by accidents, injuries or disorders.

A neuropsychological assessment can evaluate your cognitive strengths and weaknesses. This provides information to your doctors and carers on your options and treatments.

You might need to undergo a neuropsychological assessment to show the Court your capacity for different tasks and activities. These can include:

  • managing your finances
  • driving a car
  • making decisions about your medical treatment
  • living by yourself.

A neuropsychological assessment usually involves an interview and a testing component. The tests do not contain any physical exams – they look at things like your memory, problem-solving skills, concentration and ability to perceive and learn.
