Speech pathology (or speech therapy) is a treatment program designed to help patients regain and increase their ability to communicate through speech. It can also assist people who have trouble swallowing.

A Speech Pathologist is trained to assess and treat people who have a communication disability. They work in a variety of places including schools, hospitals, community and rehabilitation centres, aged care facilities and medical practices.

Speech pathology includes:

  • training and repetitive exercises using your mouth, lips and tongue
  • use of devices that can make it easier for some people to speak.
