If you were injured in a transport accident after 1987, then it is the responsibility of the Transport Accident Commissions (TAC) to change your home to meet your accident-related needs. TAC need to co-ordinate and finance any changes that are required.

If you have been paid compensation from a WorkSafe claim, then WorkSafe will also need to pay for modifications to your home.

TAC and WorkSafe will only pay the reasonable costs of modifications that you need as a result of your injuries from a transport or workplace accident. You should always check with them before you start making any modifications.

If you need to modify your home, you should contact your Client Services Officer. They will inform the Senior Master that your home needs changes. If you have TAC or WorkSafe cover, your Client Services Officer might call, or help you get in contact with, your Support Coordinator or Claims Officer.

If you do not have cover from compensation, you may have to pay for the changes from your money held by the Senior Master. You will need to make an application to access your funds held in Court.

FIC will appoint someone to oversee all major changes. This is usually a Project Manager or Occupational Therapist. The Senior Master requires supervision of all contracts and work carried out on your house.

If an Architect is appointed by FIC to design changes to your house, they will work to meet your budget. They can also advise the Senior Master on how much you need to spend.
