You can apply to use your funds held in Court to help pay for the cost of a computer, laptop or software package.

Looking for a computer

When you’re looking for a new computer, or upgrading your existing computer, start by making a list of everything you’d like that computer to do. For example:

  • write documents and presentations
  • store your photos and music
  • stream videos and music
  • what size laptop or screen you need.

Take your time to decide what you need, and have a look around to compare prices and brands. You might need to think about:

  • how much memory you need
  • which computer will be compatible with your camera or other equipment
  • if you need backup.

If you find a computer or computer package that suits your needs, you can ask the salesperson to fax a quote to FIC. Please ask the salesperson to include your full name in the quote.

How to apply

You should always talk to your Client Services Officer before you make any purchases. They will help you with your application to access funds in Court.

You can make an application by either:

  • talking to your Client Services Officer
  • sending us an email or letter.

When your application is ready, your Client Services Officer will send it to the Senior Master. The Senior Master considers whether:

  • this will be of benefit to you
  • your funds can afford to pay for the request
  • your interests are protected.

If the Senior Master approves your application, your Client Services Officer will contact you and let you know you can go ahead with the purchase.

If the Senior Master does not approve your application, your Client Services Officer will contact you to discuss this matter further.
